Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Chevta collects, uses, stores, and processes information. It is written to match the actual product, not a generic template. If the product changes, this document will be updated to match.
1. Who this applies to
Chevta is a business record-keeping tool for small sellers and traders. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, or the minimum age required by your local law if that is higher.
2. What we collect and where it lives
Chevta is local-first. When you use the app without signing in, everything you enter — customer names, notes, sales, expenses, debts, follow-ups, and your business profile — is stored only on your device. We do not receive or see this information unless you choose to sign in.
If you sign in
You may sign in with Google or with an email or phone verification code. When you sign in, the app may additionally:
- Create an account identified by the email address, phone number, or Google account you used.
- Back up the following to our cloud database so you can recover them or use them on another device: business profile, customers, sales, expenses, debts, follow-ups, business notes, and customer notes.
Cloud backup does not currently include product-catalog entries or Smart Capture entries that are still waiting for AI review and have not yet been saved.
3. Smart Capture and AI processing
Chevta includes Smart Capture, which uses AI to turn a typed note into structured records such as a sale, an expense, or a follow-up. This feature requires you to be signed in.
When you use Smart Capture:
- The text of your entry, together with relevant context needed to understand it (such as recent customer names, open balances and upcoming follow-ups), is sent to our AI provider to generate a draft.
- Nothing is saved automatically.You always see the AI's draft and choose what to keep, edit or discard before anything is written to your records.
- AI may make mistakes. Chevta does not guarantee that every interpretation is correct. Please review each draft carefully before saving.
The AI provider currently used by Chevta is Google Gemini. OpenAI may also be used depending on configuration. Data sent to AI providers is processed under their published API terms, which generally prohibit using API data to train their models, but we cannot independently guarantee this. If you do not want your entries sent to an AI provider, do not use Smart Capture. Manual entry never leaves your device unless you separately choose to back it up.
4. Voice and text input
Chevta allows you to record entries using your voice. When you use the microphone feature:
- Your audio may be processed using your device's built-in speech recognition or sent to a secure third-party transcription service to convert your voice into text.
- Audio recordings are not permanently stored by Chevta. Once the transcription is complete and the text draft is generated, the temporary audio data is discarded.
- The resulting text is then processed by Smart Capture (as described in Section 3) to structure your record.
5. Export and import
You can export your records from the app as a file at any time. Once exported, that file behaves like any other file on your device — it is no longer protected by the app. You can also import a previously exported backup back into the app.
6. Account and data deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from inside the app:

This is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting your account removes your account and all associated records from our cloud database and from your device. If you have never signed in, the same screen lets you delete all records saved locally on the device.

7. Where your data is stored and who can access it
Cloud data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider. Supabase is built on cloud infrastructure that may not be located in the same country as you. Each user's cloud data is isolated from every other user by database-level access rules. No other user of the app can read or modify your records.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. The only outside parties involved in processing your data are:
- Supabase — database hosting, authentication and cloud backup storage.
- Google Gemini / OpenAI — only for text you submit through Smart Capture, and only while you are signed in.
- Google— if you use Google sign-in, Google processes your sign-in under Google's own privacy policy.
8. Data security
Records on your device are stored in the app's private storage area. Sensitive identity and session information is stored using your device's secure credential storage. Cloud data is protected by row-level access rules that restrict each account to its own records, and all traffic between the app and our servers uses encrypted connections.
Chevta uses reasonable technical measures, including encrypted network connections, to protect information in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data retention
Local data remains on your device until you remove it through the app, delete app data through your device settings, or delete your account. Cloud-backed data remains associated with your account until you request deletion. After a deletion request is processed, account-associated cloud data is removed, except for any limited information we are required to retain by law, fraud prevention, security or legitimate dispute resolution.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Chevta's export and account-deletion features let you exercise the most common of these directly in the app. For anything else, contact us at the email address below.
If you are in Nigeria, your data may be subject to the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or another jurisdiction with its own data protection law, that law may also apply.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Where required, we will also notify you within the app.
